How to convert OGG to MP4

OGG is a container, and the audio inside is usually Vorbis (games, Audacity, older Bandcamp downloads) or Opus (Discord and other call recordings, WhatsApp voice notes with the .opus extension). It is a good format that iPhones and most apps simply do not play. An MP4 with AAC plays everywhere, which is the point of converting. The decoding and the video happen on your machine; the file never uploads.

  1. Drop the .ogg or .opus file on the page. Chrome, Edge and Firefox decode both Vorbis and Opus on your device.
  2. Keep Still for the cover alone, or pick Bars, Halo, Vinyl, Film or Line for a visualizer around it. For a recorded call, Line draws the waveform.
  3. Upload the cover (the picture inside an OGG is not read yet) or type the title and a typographic cover is made. Choose 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels and TikTok, 1:1 for feeds.
  4. Choose the whole file (up to ten minutes) or a clip and press Export. The MP4 downloads with the audio as AAC.

Questions

Vorbis or Opus: does it matter?+

No. Both decode here, tested with .ogg Vorbis, .opus and Opus in a WebM file. The audio in the MP4 is AAC either way.

Does it work in Safari?+

Safari's support for OGG is partial, so the file may be refused there. Chrome, Edge and Firefox decode it; use one of those for OGG and Opus files.

Why does my phone not play the OGG?+

iPhones and many apps do not ship a Vorbis or Opus decoder, so the file plays on a desktop and fails on a phone. MP4 with AAC is the one combination everything plays, and the platforms require it anyway.

Is the cover inside the OGG used?+

Not yet: the embedded picture is read from MP3 and M4A files, not from OGG. Upload the cover, or type the title and a typographic cover is made from it.

Can I make a video of a Discord or WhatsApp recording?+

Yes. Those are Opus files. Still gives the recording a cover and a title; Line draws the voice as a waveform. For a podcast look, the waveform video maker is the same tool with the speech styles first.

Does my file get uploaded?+

No. The file is decoded, drawn and encoded in your browser with the WebCodecs API. Nothing leaves your machine, there is no queue and no watermark.

How long can the file be?+

Up to ten minutes per export, at 1080p, free. A longer file, a full album side or a podcast episode, goes out in parts for now: set the start, export ten minutes, set the next start. Pro, which is coming, renders the whole file in one piece on our servers.

Which frame for YouTube, and which for Reels?+

16:9 for YouTube, the whole file. 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, usually a 15, 30 or 60 second clip from the best part. 1:1 for feeds. The frame switch sits beside the player and every style has its own layout for each.
