How to make a worship lyric video

Most lyric video tools are built for TikTok: one line at a time, appearing as it is sung, the words bouncing on the beat. That is the wrong shape for a room full of people singing. The Worship style follows the habits of a good projectionist instead: two lines to a slide so the next line is already there, type large enough for the back row, the line being sung brighter than its partner, and nothing in the words moving except the change from one slide to the next.

The background is the motion loop media teams usually buy separately: dark, soft light in the colors of the cover drifting slowly behind the words, a little brighter when the song lifts. It is made from the song as it plays, so it is always the length of the song and never loops in the middle of a chorus.

  1. Drop the recording, MP3, M4A or WAV: your band's, a track your church has the rights to, or your own song. Or search the song by name to work from its 30 second store preview.
  2. Searched? The timed lyrics arrive; pick the first line you hear. Your own recording? Paste the lyrics, press play and tap when each line starts.
  3. Keep the Worship style. Set the title and the credit line for the title slide, and pick the colors for the background: from the cover, or one of the accents.
  4. Choose 16:9 for the screen in the room or YouTube, 9:16 for Reels and Shorts, and export the whole song as a 1080p MP4.

Questions

What does the Worship style look like?+

Like a good projector slide, moving gently. Two lines to a slide in large, plain white type; the line being sung is full white and its partner a step back, so the room can read ahead. Slides change with a slow crossfade and the words never bounce. Behind them, a dark background of soft light in the cover's colors drifting on slow paths, with dust rising, a little brighter in the loud sections and warm on the big moment. A title slide with the song and the credit opens it.

Why two lines to a slide?+

Because a congregation sings from the screen. A one-line caption, the TikTok format, appears as the voice reaches it, which is fine to watch and too late to sing. Two lines give everyone the next line before it comes, and a line too long for one row breaks into even rows, never leaving one word on its own.

Can I play it from ProPresenter, EasyWorship or a TV?+

It is an ordinary H.264 MP4 at 1080p, so anything that plays a video file plays it: presentation software, a laptop on the projector, a smart TV from a USB stick. It needs no internet once exported. The words follow the recording, so it is for playing with that recording, a service without musicians or a pre-service loop, not for a live band, which sets its own tempo; for a live band, project the slides from your presentation software as usual.

What about CCLI and copyright?+

Two separate permissions, and this is not legal advice. The words: CCLI's Church Copyright License covers storing song words in presentation software and projecting them for congregational singing, with a credit line of title, writers, copyright notice and your license number. The recording: the same license summary says artist and label recordings may not be reproduced and that it grants no public performance rights, so a video carrying a commercial recording is a different matter. Your own band's recording or your church's own song is the clean case. For commercial songs, CCLI now sells SongSelect Lyric Videos, streamed and licensed for church use.

Where do the lyrics come from?+

Search the song by name and timed lyrics come from the open LRCLIB database with the store's 30 second preview; pick the first line you hear and the rest follow. For your own recording, paste the lyrics one line per line, press play and tap when each line starts. Blank lines are ignored, so keep the verse breaks if they help you read.

Where does the credit line go?+

On the title slide: the Title field is the song, the Artist field the line under it. Put the writers there, or a short credit with your CCLI license number, and it opens the video before the first lyric slide.

Is it free?+

Yes. 1080p in 16:9 for the screen or 9:16 and 1:1 for social, the whole song up to ten minutes, no account, no watermark. The video is rendered in your browser; nothing uploads.
