M4A to WAV.
An M4A from Voice Memos, GarageBand or iTunes as a WAV any editor, DAW or transcription tool opens. Drop one or many, and each comes back as 16-bit PCM at its own sample rate. Converted on your own machine.
01 Files
MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Opus, or a video for its sound, as many as you like. The files are read on your device and never upload.
02 Convert to
Lossless PCM at the file's own sample rate: 24-bit sources stay 24-bit, everything else is 16-bit. Each file downloads as it finishes.
Converted, then a video
A song on its way to YouTube, TikTok or Reels still needs a picture there. Above, a frame from our music visualizer, which turns the converted file into a video that moves with it. For a cover held still with the sound, use WAV to MP4; for a voice recording, the waveform video maker.
How to convert M4A to WAV
An M4A is AAC audio, compressed, in Apple's MPEG-4 file. Plenty of editors, older DAWs, hardware and transcription services want WAV instead, and editing a WAV costs nothing in quality however many times you save it. Converting decodes the AAC and writes the samples out as PCM, in your browser, so a private recording stays on your machine.
- Drop the M4A files anywhere on the page, or click to choose them, one or a whole folder. Each shows its format, sample rate and length at once. No file to hand? Try the sample.
- Keep WAV. It is written at the file's own sample rate, 16-bit, or 24-bit when the source is.
- Press Convert. The files go one after another, each with its own progress line, and each WAV downloads under the original name as soon as it is done.

Questions
Does M4A to WAV lose quality?+
No, and it gains none: the WAV is exactly what the AAC decodes to. What it gives you is a file you can edit, cut and save again and again without another lossy pass, which is why editors prefer it.
How big will the WAV be?+
Much bigger: about ten megabytes a minute in stereo at 44.1 kHz, five in mono, and a little more at 48 kHz. A one hour mono Voice Memo is around 300 MB as a WAV. If the file is only going to a person or a phone, M4A to MP3 is the better conversion.
Can I convert Voice Memos for transcription?+
Yes. Share the memo to Files or AirDrop it to a computer, then drop it here. Most transcription tools take M4A directly, so check first; for the ones that want WAV, this keeps the memo's own sample rate and channel count, nothing resampled. The recording never uploads anywhere on the way.
What about Apple Lossless and Apple Music files?+
Apple Lossless decodes in Safari, not in Chrome or Edge (tested), so open this page in Safari for those. Songs downloaded with an Apple Music subscription are protected with DRM and will not convert anywhere; iTunes Store purchases are DRM-free and convert normally.
Is my audio uploaded?+
No. Each file is decoded and encoded in your browser, a piece at a time, and the download is made there. Nothing leaves your machine, nothing is watermarked, and there is no queue. The page only counts that a file was converted, with the formats, never a name or the audio.
How fast is it?+
Measured in Chrome on a laptop with a two minute song: WAV to a 192 kbps MP3 in about two and a half seconds, MP3 to WAV in under two. A phone is slower. Files go one at a time, so a batch takes the sum of its files.
