What an oscilloscope visualizer shows

An oscilloscope in X-Y mode takes two signals and plots one against the other. Here the left channel moves the beam sideways and the right channel moves it up and down, 256 samples per frame, 30 frames a second, so the figure on screen is the actual waveform of your song, not a pattern timed to it. A mono passage is a diagonal line; a wide stereo chord blooms into a ring; a bass note sweeps the whole trace.

The scope itself is drawn, not photographed: a phosphor trace in three passes for the glow, a scale along the edges, faint scanlines. The kick drum jolts the trace the way a real tube reacts to a thump on the desk, the loud sections lengthen the persistence, and the drop inverts the screen for a beat. In a vertical frame the scope sits in the upper two thirds and the song title takes the space below.

  1. Drop the MP3, M4A or WAV, or search the song by name and work from its 30 second store preview.
  2. Keep Scope selected in the style strip. The other eight styles are one click away if the song turns out to be a mono line.
  3. Set the title and artist, pick a phosphor color or let the cover choose it, and choose where the video goes: TikTok, Reels and Shorts (9:16), YouTube (16:9) or a square feed.
  4. Export. A 1080p MP4 with the audio in AAC; a four minute song takes about a minute on a laptop.

Questions

Why is the trace a straight diagonal line?+

Because the left and right channels are the same. An oscilloscope in X-Y mode plots left against right: a mono signal, or a mix panned dead center, lands on a 45 degree line. Stereo width opens the figure; reverb, wide synths and panned guitars make the shapes. If a song is a line, it is a narrow mix, not a bug.

Is this the same as oscilloscope music on YouTube?+

Same display, different direction. Oscilloscope music is composed so that the signal draws pictures; this draws whatever your song already is. A real song gives loops, ellipses and tangles that change with every chord, which is the point: nothing here is a canned animation.

Can I change the green?+

Yes. The phosphor takes its color from the cover palette by default, and the Color row offers six fixed accents. The grid, the scale marks and the scanlines stay the same.

Which songs look best?+

Anything with stereo space and air: synth music, ambient, well mixed pop, live recordings. Dense, loud, mono-compatible masters become a bright blob; a quieter section of the same song will open up again.

Is it free?+

Yes. 1080p, the whole song (up to ten minutes per export), no account, no watermark, nothing uploaded. The analysis and the encoding run in your browser.
